Unfortunately, the previous 12 operational berths which are continuously exposed to seawater has been a constant concern to the PTP maintenance department.
The Project Description
Phase II of the PTP development involves
(a) The construction of the approximately 2.9 km of wharf with related infrastructure;
(b) The construction of an approximately 720 metres (Berth 13 & 14) length of the wharf;
(c) Installation of crane rails for wharf gantry crane including all accessories along this length of wharf and a transition area between wharf deck and terminal yard of approximately 50m width consist of pavement roadwork, drainage, external and internal electrical system, water supply system, telephone ducting, SCADA system,high mast, sub-station and wharf office building and related works.
In view of the recurring maintenance problems plaguing the existing marine concrete structures, the Consultant, AECOM which was commissioned to provide multi-disciplinary consultancy services for the detailed survey, engineering design and supervision of wharves for the development of Phase 2: Berth 13 & 14 where AECOM’s key role in design optimization enhances the design aspects and construction works as well as providing potential cost savings to PTP has decided to use a time-proven HPI integral waterproofing concrete admixture to eliminate corrosion and PTP’s long term ownership costs for the service-life as well as maintenance-free structure of their new berths, namely the 3CC System.
Cementaid’s 3CC System concrete prevents all the 11 mechanisms of corrosion to reinforced concrete from occurring for design and service life of the concrete structure.
